Project Type: Good Class Bungalow
Date: 2021
Team: Absolute X
Scope: Architecture, Interior Architecture
Located on a hilly site near Mount Echo Park Road, this project embraces its scenic surroundings by orienting main living areas toward expansive, tree-framed views. With a significant level difference of 9.8 meters across the 1,728.78 sqm site, the design reimagines the conventional bungalow by introducing curves, diverse materials, and seamless connectivity between structural elements.
Starting with a traditional boxy form, the design evolves through a distorted arc, creating a fluid transition between roof, slab, and eaves. Curvilinear lines redefine the structure into a modern, organic form. The use of white concrete, darkened brick, and matte grey titanium highlights this transformation, while continuous slabs wrap around private spaces and semi-slabs shade leisure areas.
This reinterpretation of tropical design incorporates eaves and verandahs to provide shading and protect interiors from east-west sunlight, aligning with the building’s north-south orientation. Carefully proportioned curved slabs establish a cohesive architectural language, balancing privacy, open spaces, and framed views. The result is a modern tropical residence that integrates structural innovation with its natural surroundings.
The house is re-united.
