In the 1900s, the Japanese government faced a critical issue of pollution and waste management due to the rising consumption and industrial activity. This spurred the search for a sustainable solution that culminated in the Eco-Towns project jointly developed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Environment (MOE). The Eco-Town model addresses the environmental issue of pollution and waste management by diverting waste away from landfills and finding new life for them in other industrial processes. Rammed Earth in the Tropic
In a 2009 dissertation, we analysed Rammed Earth construction techniques and its viability for use in Singapore. Rammed earth is a traditional method of construction using compressed unbaked earth – usually to construct walls – that has a long history as far back as 500 B.C. What are some benefits and the possibility of using it in the Tropics?Rammed Earth Project in Singapore
In a 2009 thesis, we proposed a thermal therapy resort that utilizes rammed earth construction. The conception and design were centered around using rammed earth to minimize the project’s ecological footprint. In contrast to the existing linear process of architecture – where resources are extracted to construct buildings before being discarded as waste at the end of the building’s lifespan – rammed earth can be returned to the ground upon demolition, leaving the natural environment similar to its original state pre-construction.A 88 Dawson Road 26-37 142088
