Location: Singapore
Project Type: Transporation Infrastructure
Date: 2024
Team: Absolute X
Scope: Architecture, Interior Architecture
The Tanjong Pagar Former Railway Station is being transformed into a modern transportation hub featuring a new bus station in the plaza in front of the historic building, primarily serving long-distance travel to Malaysia. Accessed from the rear via the new Cantonment exit and the Green Rail Corridor, the station now offers a reversed circulation where passengers enter from the back and are greeted by the grand facade of the historic building and a new extension. The extension, with a rounded canopy of metal and timber, complements the old station’s form while showcasing modern materials that reflect Singapore’s progression.
An urban farm at the rear of the station will provide fresh produce for cafes and restaurants inside while integrating with the Green Rail Corridor to create a tranquil park for Spottiswoode residents. This space combines greenery and heritage, offering visitors a serene environment under the station's preserved canopy while promoting local food production and sustainability. The farm embodies Singapore’s dedication to innovation, self-reliance, and environmental stewardship.
The revitalized station will serve as a key node for the Green Rail Corridor, featuring dedicated cycling paths and innovative bicycle parking that preserves the heritage building’s image. By blending history, sustainability, and modern functionality, the redevelopment reflects Singapore’s commitment to preserving its past while advancing toward a sustainable future.
The station is revitalised.
